RMDEC Meeting 22 April 2016
This meeting was called by the Regional Mining Development And Environmental Committee (RMDEC) after being requested to do so by Youens Attorneys (and presumably others involved in the matter) in a letter to DMR objecting to the granting of the prospecting rights and to the acceptance of the mining rights application. Many of the interested and affected parties registered through the EIA process were not invited.
RMDEC is a committee established in terms of Section 64(1) of the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act 28 of 2002) (MPRDA) and consists of 14 members who have been drawn from the relevant Government Departments or organs of State from National, Provincial and Local level. The functions of the Committee include but are not limited to advising the Minister through the chairman of the Board on objections received to the granting of a prospecting right, mining right or mining permit (section 10 of the Act).
Below is a copy of the objections that we put forward – strictly related to the mining rights application process and not the EIA process.
